Marie Ferguson, mezzo-soprano, is a dynamic performer, teacher, and administrator based in Miami, FL. Marie is an avid recitalist and enjoys singing lieder, mélodie, and exploring contemporary art song. In opera, Marie performed the role of the Muse in Offenbach’s Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Cis in Britten’s Albert Herring, as well as a dancer and choral member in Puccini’s Il Tabarro and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. As a member of the Palm Beach Opera chorus, Marie performed in Bellini’s Norma and will perform in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette this spring.
An adaptive performer, Marie also engages in musical theater. She worked as a Dance Captain in residence at Theatre Arts Center in New York City and performed in Legally Blonde, The Little Mermaid, and Young Frankenstein at Plays in the Park in New Jersey.
As a choral singer, Marie is a soloist at Plymouth Congregational Church in Coconut Grove as well as the director of the Joyful Noise Children’s Choir. Marie is an active choral freelancer in the Miami area.
Marie is a certified teacher of YogaVoice®–a technique that employs the technologies of yoga to teach singing and communication. Marie enjoys working with singers of all ages and abilities to help them discover their authentic voices. Additionally, she uses YogaVoice® with instrumentalists to help them connect to their bodyminds and relate to their instruments in new ways.
Marie fosters her love of teaching by maintaining a private studio of around 20 students. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and serves as an adjudicator for Florida Vocal Association’s Solo & Ensemble competition.
Marie received her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, under the tutelage of Susan Quittmeyer. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Women’s & Gender Studies from Rutgers University.
In Miami, Marie lives with her wonderful husband Colin and their adorable cat Reggae.
